Short: Math arcade game for kids 6-12 Author: chris.evans@homebase.com (Chris Evans) Uploader: dale frameli infomail com (Dale Frameli) Type: misc/edu, game/misc Architecture: m68k-amigaos Night Math Attack is a game for kids to practice all 4 math ops (+,-,x, /) created with help from an educational consultant for use in local schools. The program has up-beat music, quality graphics, and no requirement for fast hand control. Following the title screen and instructions, the player chooses which math operation of practice. The game screen has a question at the top, 4 answers down the left side, a helicopter in the middle, and a choice of sound on/off at the bottom. The player uses the joystick or cursor keys to fly the chopper up or down so it is level with the correct answer, and then uses the joystick or space bar to fire a missile at the answer. A message then reports whether the choice was right or wrong. The "wrong" messages are followed by the question with the correct answer to reinforce learning. Wrong choices are generated randomly so that students will not become used to the same choices after repeated plays. After 20 questions a "report card" gives the accuracy rate. There is a print-out option which prints wrong questions and out-of-time questions for further study, which requires the printer driver to be in the devs directory of the system boot disk. NMA works on all systems tested so far: the A500, A2000, A3000, & A4000. At the end of Night Math Attack there's a shareware screen offering the sister game Spell Chopper for $5.00 incl shipping, so users effectively get the pair for $5.00. It has the same gameplay, except the missiles shoot at the correctly spelled word. Users can choose lists from grades 1-6. ShareWorld issue 3 gave NMA a decent review. NMA is available on Fred Fish Vol 7 CD and on Gold Fish Vol. 2 CD, and from the author: Chris Evans 44 Shady Lane - RR7 St. Thomas, ON Canada N5P 3T2 Internet: Chris.Evans@homebase.com or ChrisEvans@cubic.mbcc.com Fidonet: Chris Evans 1:2401/114 or Chris Evans 1:2401/302
